When in March 2003. As the United States invaded Baghdad, deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and his family fled the city, triggering one of the most intense manhunts in history.

This pursuit ended in 2003. on December 13, when US forces captured and arrested the deranged former dictator on the outskirts of his hometown of Tikrit, Iraq - not a shot was fired .

After Hussein and his family fled Baghdad, the US Department of Defense distributed their images on playing cards to help identify them. They added "captured" after having it.

Hussein's capture was seen as a major victory for American forces, but the celebration of his capture was short-lived. Four months later, American contractors were killed and hanged in Fallujah, beginning a nearly year-long battle amid growing disillusionment with the war effort.
